The 4 best mini golf spots in Edinburgh that are surprisingly fun

The other night, I rewatched High School Musical 2, and that scene where the Evans twins play golf in full pink gear came on. Their setup was so fancy that it made me want to play too. Only difference? My budget screamed mini golf.

So I dropped a message in the group chat and asked my friends where they wanted to go, and suddenly we had a list of Edinburgh mini golf spots to hit. One month and a bunch of weekend outings later, we tried them all.

If you and your friends are also itching to whack a few balls around (without needing actual golf skills), keep reading. You might just find your next weekend plan.

Operating hours:

  • Monday to Sunday: 10 AM – 10 PM

Price: ££

Volcano Falls Adventure Golf at Fountain Park is packed with giant dinosaurs, jungle vibes, and even an erupting volcano decor. There are two 18-hole courses to choose from.

The Volcano Valley is easier and great for younger kids who are new to mini golf. Skulls Falls, on the other hand, was trickier, with more surprises and fun challenges. Some holes even talk to you when the ball goes through tunnels, which gave us a laugh.

We were impressed by how much effort went into the design. The lighting and scenery make it feel like you’re really in the middle of a jungle, and there are loads of cool little details. It’s a fun, playful environment that makes you want to explore both courses.

Pro tip:

Plan toilet breaks first. The toilets are inside the main Fountain Park building, which is about a 2–3 minute walk from the mini golf entrance. Make sure younger kids go before starting your round so you don’t have to pause mid-game.

2. Portal Mini Golf

Operating hours:

  • Monday to Sunday: 10 AM – 11 PM

While Portal Mini Golf is not super well-known yet, we think it really should be. The whole place is indoors and decked out in neon lights, 80s music, and fun artwork inspired by old arcade games and shows like Stranger Things.

The course has 18 holes, and each one is different. We really liked how it started off easy and got trickier as we went. You start off at a fake skatepark and end up in this spooky, forest-like area.

It’s really great for both kids and adults. Nobody in our group felt left out, even if they weren’t mini-golf pros.

Pro tip:

If you want the best photo spots, we recommend going to hole #1 (skatepark ramp), hole #8 (pixel maze), and hole#17 (glow tunnel). These holes have the coolest visuals and lighting, making them ideal for selfies or group photos.

Operating hours:

  • Monday: 10 AM – 12 AM

Lane7’s mini golf course called “I Like Big Putts” has 14 super creative holes with neon lights, funky designs, and a few tricky surprises. It’s not your basic mini-golf setup; some holes were genuinely challenging, which made us really competitive.

The best part here was that there was no strict time limit. You can take your time, figure out each hole, and even skip one and come back if it’s too crowded.

Make sure to read the sign at each hole before you play. Some holes have gimmicks, like using a different putter or hitting the ball while standing backwards.

We booked the “Bar then PAR” package, which includes a drink and a round of golf. It’s a great value, and the cocktails and slushies were a nice bonus while playing.

Pro tip:

If you’ve got time, check out the bowling area or arcade games too. The UV lighting and design give everything a cool, slightly retro vibe.

4. Boom Battle Bar

Address: Units 3 & 4, Omni Centre

Contact details: +44 131 332 1212

Operating hours:

  • Monday to Thursday: 12 PM – 11 PM
  • Friday: 12 PM – 12 AM
  • Saturday: 11 AM – 12 AM
  • Sunday: 11 AM – 11 PM

Price: ££

Boom Battle Bar’s “Crazier Golf” is not your typical quiet putting green. It’s loud, lively, and full of energy.

Each of the 8 holes has its own wild twist. It’s silly, creative, and way more active than we expected (in a good way).

We went as a group of six. The BMX hole (hole #5) was probably the most chaotic and most fun. Some of the holes are a bit tricky, and we did lose a ball or two, so just keep an eye out when playing.

It’s not a long course, probably around 45 minutes only, but it’s packed with enough action to keep everyone entertained.

Pro tip:

Make the most out of the place. Start your visit with 30 minutes of axe throwing to get into competitive mode. Then play the 8-hole Crazier Golf, and finish with Augmented Reality darts and a drink. It’s the perfect 2–2.5 hour night out.
