The 5 best tutoring services in Liverpool that stand out from the rest

Qualifications: We looked at the tutor’s education, certifications, and experience in the subject they teach.

Teaching Method: We considered how the tutor explains concepts, adapts to different learning styles, and uses resources to make learning effective and engaging.

Availability and Flexibility: We checked how easy it is to schedule sessions. Do they offer evenings or weekends? Can they adjust to changes or last-minute requests? Do they offer online sessions?

Pricing: We assessed whether the cost reflects the tutor’s experience and quality. Are their rates reasonable?

I remember that the first time I really thought about tutoring wasn’t during exam panic. It was after a friend mentioned her son’s tutor had done more for his confidence than any classroom ever had. That stuck with me.

It wasn’t just about grades. It was about mindset, motivation, and sometimes even the kind of support you’d expect from psychologists rather than teachers.

In Liverpool, where every student learn differently, tutoring has become less of a last resort and more of a smart move. Of course, not all services deliver equally. So here’s a closer look at the best tutoring services in Liverpool that our team could vouch for!

How much do tutoring sessions cost in Liverpool?

Tutoring sessions in Liverpool usually cost between £20 and £45 per hour. Most General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) or A-Level tutors charge around £26–£40 per hour, while online or less experienced tutors may start at £10–£15 per hour.

It’s important to know your weaknesses so you know what to improve on. That’s exactly what Success Tutoring does first before anything else!

They always begin with a thorough diagnostic assessment. This is how they map a student’s level against the curriculum and figure out where the gaps are. Based on the results, they’ll build a custom program focusing on the student’s weaknesses.

They seem strongest in Maths and English. Students preparing for major exams report meaningful improvements, even mentioning extra feedback beyond scheduled sessions.

From what we’ve heard, the tutors prioritise understanding over memorisation. They walk through concepts, guide students through problems, then gradually step back.

There’s also an effort to make the environment engaging. An example? The reward system! Parents said it works for younger students who need that extra push to stay motivated.

Of course, it’s not without trade-offs. We noticed that they have short operation hours. Some students have also mentioned that the centre can get a bit loud. It can be frustrating for those who are easily distracted.

Pros

  • Individualised approach
  • Strong in core subjects
  • Structured learning
  • Variety of tutors
  • Supportive environment
  • Reward system
  • Tech-driven management

Cons

  • Short operation hours compared to others

Overall a great team and super helpful environment!

“Such a great centre, with various tutors that teach a variety of subjects from K-6, 7-12! The staff are really helpful (especially when you’re stressing out about studying last minute). They were super great when helping me study for my HSC, significantly boosting my marks and even offering to give me extra feedback after my session ended! Overall a great team and super helpful environment!”

Glad I found this tutoring for my child

“Glad I found this tutoring for my child. Unlike the traditional tutoring  where kids all sit and listen to the teacher, this tutoring lets the child work on their own work on their own pace. My favourite part is that they help with homework, my child always had problem doing homework at home so for us it was a life saver! Love the easy booking system using app too.”

Bee Smart Tuition Centre has nailed all the core subjects. They’re especially great at Maths, English, and Science.

Their tutor sessions are in groups (capped at five students). Some might find this uncomfortable, but for others, this actually helped! Several parents mentioned how their kids felt more comfortable asking questions in this setting.

We also noticed a pattern in how students respond to the tutoring style. Besides improving on the subjects, most of the kids started enjoying them at school.

We’ve heard a lot of good feedback about Dean, one of the tutors. A lot of the students highlighted his enthusiasm. What’s interesting is that he encourages students to try independently before stepping in. We think that’s Bee Smart’s strongest trait.

Students aren’t just improving grades. They’re becoming more engaged and building resilience with their learning, which is more valuable long-term.

Just remember that, while a free assessment is offered, it’s limited by subject. Additional ones come at a cost. So if you’re considering multiple subjects, that can quietly stack up before you’ve even committed.

Pros

  • Strong in core subjects
  • Small-group classes
  • Clear explanations
  • Independence and resilience in learning
  • Comfortable learning atmosphere

Cons

  • Additional cost for multiple subjects’ assessment

The progress she has made in both subjects has been brilliant

“My daughter, who is currently in Year 9, initially was attending for Science and now for Maths as well. The progress she has made in both subjects has been brilliant. Her confidence has grown enormously, and she actually enjoys science in school now! The tutor provides clear explanations, is friendly and supportive. I highly recommend Bee Smart Tuition for both Science and Maths.”

The tutors and staff built a great rapport with our son

“We brought our son who was in primary school to Bee Smart tuition and they made him feel very welcome and relaxed from the start. The tutors and staff built a great rapport with our son and boosted his confidence in his Maths. Fantastic communication with Dean and his team in benchmarking our son and reviewed the progress made but mostly importantly our son had fun whilst learning new skills.”

Woolton Tutors has a quietly impressive setup that doesn’t shout the loudest but delivers serious results where it matters. It’s a small, specialist operation run by a couple who know their lanes.

Aside from being a great math tutor, Dr John Ankers also leads the science. In fact, one person mentioned their daughter jumping from 4s to 7s and 8s in science.

Students love how he teaches. From what we’ve heard, he breaks down complex topics into stories or logical sequences.

On the other side, Sammy’s involvement in foreign languages (German and Italian) adds a bit of range. But we think they’re strongest in high-level science or maths support.

We liked that they’re open to different types of learners, even adult learners and those preparing for teaching qualifications. But what we appreciate the most was their pro-bono spots for academically able students from lower-income backgrounds.

The biggest limitation is pretty obvious. Because it’s just run by the two of them, availability is right.

Pros

  • Proven results
  • Engaging and effective teaching style
  • Flexible tutoring options
  • Wide range of learners
  • Pro-bono cases

Cons

  • Limited availability

I can confidently say he’s been absolutely fantastic

“I’ve been tutored by John Ankers in Biology since GCSE all the way through to A Levels, and I can confidently say he’s been absolutely fantastic. He’s incredibly engaging and passionate about the subject, always finding ways to make complex topics easier to understand. He’s also been resilient and supportive throughout my journey, constantly challenging me to do better. Thanks to his help, I achieved the grades I needed to get into university, along with helping to keep my passion for biology. I’d highly recommend him to anyone — 5 stars from me!!!”

I highly recommend Dr Ankers

“I highly recommend Dr Ankers, who quickly identified my son’s weaknesses with his A level Biology studies and worked on them consistently, helping to develop his confidence and knowledge. He simplified topics by breaking them down into sequential ‘stories’ and helped my son to gain marks through a more logical approach to questions. With Dr Anker’s support, a C during mocks became an A this summer.”

Children becoming more comfortable with the subject they were once weak at is an ultimate testimony to how great a tuition centre is. And well… we definitely checked that at Accelerate Learning Centres.

Some parents we spoke with said their children became more engaged and even excited to attend sessions. Sessions are done in small groups. Tutors are described as friendly, patient, and welcoming.

In terms of academics, they shine best in Maths and English. However, they also cover Science subjects and offer structured 11+ preparation. It seems like they’re aiming to support students across multiple key stages.

It’s not only the children who are happy here, but even the parents. That’s because this centre is very organised.

There are weekly feedback emails that break down exactly what was covered, where their child is doing well, and what needs work next.

That said, it’s not perfect for everyone. The pricing comes up as a drawback, and it’s fair to say they sit on the more premium side.

Pros

  • Organised and structured
  • Small class sizes
  • Friendly and patient tutors
  • Very encouraging
  • Broad subject support
  • Flexible options
  • Detailed progress tracking

Cons

  • Premium pricing

He has created a safe environment for her to learn

“Steve teaches my daughter Emily. He is an excellent tutor and my daughter really enjoys attending his sessions. He has created a safe environment for her to learn and she has come on tremendously. The service provided overall by accelerate has been fabulous, providing bespoke feedback after every lesson through email. Whenever I have requested more detail they have arranged for an appointment with the tutor. I would highly recommend!”

Brilliant Minds Tution has put a lot of work into perfecting their structure, and it pays off! We’ve learned that students are assessed early, grouped carefully, and then tracked through bespoke evaluations.

This way, their weaknesses are identified quickly and then tackled with targeted exercises. Add to that regular mock exams under proper timed conditions, and you’ve got a setup that feels very aligned with the pressure of real 11+ exams.

It was also interesting to hear parents talk about engagement. There seem to be games and interactive methods during sessions. It’s not a useless gimmick because it actually helps their students retain concepts.

What we appreciate most, though, is how they handle unexpected changes. When The Blue Coat School altered its exam format mid-cycle, Brilliant Minds didn’t just tweak a worksheet.

They researched the changes, held a parent meeting, and overhauled their materials and mock exams. They’re very hands-on and genuinely help students pass whatever exam they want to take.

Pricing is a bit higher, but considering everything we know, we think it’s worth it.

Pros

  • Strong 11+ subject focus
  • Personalised learning approach
  • High-quality progress tracking
  • Excellent teaching quality
  • Engaging teaching style
  • Adaptability to exam changes
  • Small class sizes

Cons

  • Higher pricing

The level of work and teaching is set to a very high standard!

“Don’t think we could have chosen a better tutor group than Brilliant minds! Ian and Helen work extremely hard for the students! My son is preparing for Yr7 applications and in particular his 11+ entry exam for Blue Coat! The level of work and teaching is set to a very high standard! Regardless of whether he gets a place following a very competitive and challenging entrance test the process over recent months has without doubt allowed our son to develop his knowledge, skills and experiences!”

Their deep knowledge and approachable personalities make them exceptional

“I wholeheartedly recommend both Ian and Helen as outstanding tutors. Their deep knowledge, up-to-date teaching methods, and approachable personalities make them exceptional. Despite starting with them later in the 11+ preparation process, their guidance proved to be invaluable. The homework they assign and the detailed feedback from mock exams are extremely beneficial and insightful.”
