Finding a dance school that grows with you is rare, but the Nicole O’Donnell Dance Academy really nails it. You can start training here in early childhood and easily continue right into adulthood!

They’ve been running since 2006, offering a massive variety of classes from commercial dance to musical theatre.

I actually checked out one of their adult sessions recently, and the teaching quality blew me away.

The teachers are fully qualified, insured, and hold Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) checks. It just feels like a highly professional, incredibly well-rounded environment for anyone serious about learning.

Plus, students who want a bigger challenge can optionally join their competition pathway. It’s easily the most robust setup I’ve seen in the city for long-term growth.

However, they have a strict policy regarding leaving or changing classes. You have to provide at least one-month written notice.

Pros

  • Varied class options for all ages
  • Qualified and PVG-checked teachers
  • Training available from toddler to adult
  • Optional competition pathway for dedicated students

Cons

  • Strict one-month written notice required to leave or change classes

Stepping into a studio as a grown-up can feel intimidating. Dance Glasgow fixes this by dedicating their space entirely to adult learners and returning childhood dancers.

They cater to absolutely all ability levels, so absolute beginners feel just as welcome as advanced performers.

They run sessions across three different locations in the City Centre and West End.

You can choose from an impressive lineup that includes ballet, tap, contemporary, heels, and even barre fitness. They also offer fun private sessions for weddings and hen parties.

That said, for parents who are looking to enrol their children, they don’t have classes available for children and teens.

Moreover, they have a strict policy about cancelling and rescheduling classes. You must notify them at least eight hours in advance, which might not be possible if the reason is an emergency.

Pros

  • Adult-focused dance community
  • Wide range of styles like ballet and heels
  • Classes for absolute beginners to advanced
  • Private wedding and hen-party options

Cons

  • No classes available for children or teens

It is so rare to find such an inclusive, welcoming studio that offers dance classes to all skill levels. The teachers are all very knowledgeable and supportive, they help to make you feel comfortable whether just starting your dance practice or trying a new style of dance. Dance Glasgow has helped reconnect me with my love for dance as an adult and I’ve made so many great friends at the studio. Signing up for classes will always be at the top of my list whenever I am in Glasgow!

3. JaivaHouse | Afrofusion Dance Classes

Website: https://jaivahouse.com/

Address: 22 Jamaica St

Class schedule

JaivaHouse provides a supportive way to connect with culture through movement. They focus deeply on African diaspora styles like Afrofusion, Afrobeats, and Amapiano.

Chinyanta, an all-around Afro dance enthusiast, brings so much heart to these sessions. A friend of mine took her in-person foundation class and raved about the energetic vibe.

She teaches the physical steps while explaining the cultural context behind every move. It adds a really meaningful layer to the whole workout.

They also offer a solid online Beginner Basics tutorial library if you can’t make it to their physical venue. This flexible setup makes it super easy to learn at your own pace.

That said, their specialization limits their styles. You can’t find non-African genres such as ballet or salsa here.

Pros

  • Specializes in exciting African diaspora styles
  • Teaches cultural context alongside dance steps
  • Led by experienced choreographer Chinyanta
  • Offers both in-person and online learning options

Cons

  • Only operates one physical location in Glasgow
  • Highly specialized focus limits variety for general dance learners

Everyone is very friendly and welcoming and the music is always amazing. I’d definitely recommend it to anyone who loves dancing, wants to keep active and have a good time in a fun and low pressure environment.

Fun and Supportive Instructors

Fell in love with the class! I had no dancing experience before going, but Chi is an amazing teacher and breaks down the steps in an easy way, so it’s good for beginners too. Very supportive environment, the pros can help you too if you need extra advice and choreos are done several times to boost everyone confidence! Really happy!
