The 5 Best Tattoo Studios in Newcastle to Turn Your Vision into Reality

Artist Versatility: We checked how many different styles the resident artists can handle. A wider range means more options for custom requests.

Studio Cleanliness: Hygiene is the most crucial part of any body art session. We looked for places emphasising modern, medically clean environments and proper sterilisation.

Booking Process: A straightforward booking system makes life easier for clients. We reviewed how studios manage consultations, deposits, and walk-in availability.

Client Comfort: Getting tattooed hurts, so the atmosphere shouldn't add to your stress. We assessed how welcoming and inclusive the studio environment feels for nervous first-timers.

Value for Money: We compared the artists' skill levels against their hourly and day rates. The goal is finding studios that deliver outstanding artwork without unfair pricing.

1. Pureink 3 Tattoo & Piercing

pureink-3-tattoo-piercing-logo

Website: https://www.pureink.biz/

Address: 24a Nun Street

Contact: 0191 2302095

Hours: Monday-Saturday, 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM

Pureink 3 Tattoo & Piercing has operated since 2009. Their goals are to provide modern health practices and a more considered take on the tattoo experience than a typical walk-in shop offers.

The team’s styles range widely, so custom design work sits alongside more traditional requests.

The process stays refreshingly simple: your idea gets priced first, then sketched, and only once you’re happy with the design does the actual tattooing start. This sequence means no needle touches skin until the concept is fully signed off.

One thing worth knowing is that most artists work as self-employed guest artists rather than in-house staff. This setup can make the experience vary depending on who you’re booked with, so it’s worth asking about a specific artist beforehand.

Pros

  • Over 15 years in business
  •
  • Accepts walk-ins and cards
  • Clear consultation process
  • Three locations in Newcastle

Cons

  •
  • Inconsistent client experience

Absolutely love it

I got a tattoo done by Emma and absolutely love it to pieces!! The studio was lovely, hygienic and super clean, and Emma was so kind and put me at ease. She was so quick with her work and she was very caring and supportive throughout. Would definitely recommend to anyone! Thank you PureInk 🫶🏻

Exactly as I had envisioned it

Emma is absolutely amazing the tattoo I got down my spine was exactly as I had envisioned it she is incredibly talented not only that but she was so reassuring and friendly and even thought it was my first time with Emma it felt like going to a close friend for it done. I was a bit anxious for a spine tattoo but Emma was incredibly gently and overall it was an amazing experience I can’t wait to come back for my next one.

2. Northern Tattoo Collective

Website: https://northerntattoocollective.co.uk/

Address: 2 – The Basement, Bewick St

Contact: 0191 221 0328

Hours: Tuesday-Saturday, 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM (Late appointments are available upon request)

Northern Tattoo Collective comes with 11 resident artists covering everything from traditional and Japanese to realism, fine line, and spiritual work.

Beyond the resident line-up, the studio regularly hosts guest artists travelling in from around the world. So, getting a piece from someone normally a flight away becomes possible without leaving Newcastle.

Cover-ups and redesigns of older tattoos get the same attention as fresh work, and bookings go straight through your chosen artist rather than a general front desk.

Unfortunately, walk-in availability is limited, as well as calls or messages. Turning up unannounced means there’s a real chance that all their artists are already booked.

Pros

  • 11 resident artists
  • Excellent cover-up options
  • Regular international guests
  • Detailed enquiry forms
  • Late appointments available

Cons

  • Very limited walk-in availability

I don’t doubt for a second any artist here is great

Great studio. Amazing staff. Since I got tattoo during the Covid period, there were additional rules like masks and frequent hand washing etc which was all adhered too. The staff there are just amazing. I was tattood by Kara and I would recommend her to absolutely everyone. She’s great. Also saw some work of Dainah who works there and she is outstanding too. I don’t doubt for a second any artist here is great! I live 300 miles from this studio but I won’t get tattood anywhere else now.

So happy with how it came out

I was lucky enough to be paired with the wonderful Kristen. It was my first time getting a tattoo and he and everyone at Northside Tattooz were absolute superstars at making sure I was comfy. So happy with how it came out and I will be returning!

3. La Tombe Tattoo Studio

Website: https://latombetattoo.com/

Address: Studio 12, Second Floor, Sunco House, Carliol Square

Contact: Contact form

Hours: Tuesday-Saturday, 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM

La Tombe Tattoo Studio keeps the focus on fine-detail blackwork, geometric, and dot-work designs, rather than trying to cover every style under one roof. This specialism shows in their portfolio, where intricate linework is clearly their strength.

We went along recently with our cousin getting a complex geometric sleeve, and we got hooked on the collaborative design process.

They tweaked the piece together before the needle even started. It was genuinely impressive to watch.

With only two resident artists, each has a distinct style. That’s why they provide thorough preparation guidance beforehand, covering everything from hydration to what ID to bring.

Just be aware that there’s a non-refundable fee of £50 to £100 required upfront via bank transfer to lock in your date.

Pros

  • Award-winning blackwork
  • Collaborative design process
  • Detailed preparation guides
  • Wheelchair accessible studio
  • Very private environment

Cons

  • High non-refundable deposit

The studio is impeccably clean with a warm

I have had a lot of work done from JD who has done an unbelievable job of covering up some old and very black tattoos. He managed to blend the new and old and the results are amazing and we are now working on my other arm and his design is again, amazing.  The studio is impeccably clean with a warm and friendly atmosphere and be prepared to laugh a lot!! If you are looking for a new (or old tattoo covered) tattoo give these guys a shout.

A welcoming vibe

I have been tattoos by Dan and Monika so many times in the past years and each time I have felt well looked after. The studio has such a welcoming vibe, conversation always flows and the music is always great- it makes you forget you’re actually getting a tattoo. I will never go anywhere else 🙂

4. Inkhouse Tattoo

Website: https://sites.google.com/

Address: Top Floor, 11 St Mary’s Pl

Contact: +447391474345

Hours: Wednesday-Friday, 9:30 AM – 5:30 PM | Saturday, 9:30 AM – 5:00 PM

Inkhouse Tattoo runs on a genuinely one-to-one basis, with no other client’s session overlapping with yours. This matters a lot when you’re settling in for hours of realistic portrait work.

Their multi-session pieces like sleeves or back pieces run on an hourly rate rather than a flat quote. It costs  £100 an hour for returning clients, £110 for new ones, and a free in-person consultation is available beforehand with the artist.

Aftercare guidance comes as standard too, though touch-ups needed through neglect aren’t covered free of charge.

Just a heads up: a deposit anywhere from £20 to £100 is required before any appointment gets locked in, and that’s non-refundable if you cancel. Quoted prices are also estimates only, since the actual time a tattoo takes can shift during the session.

Pros

  • Over 20 years of experience
  • Private one-to-one sessions
  • Free in-person consultations
  • Excellent aftercare instructions

Cons

  • Mandatory non-refundable deposit
  • Final prices may vary

An amazing experience

Absolutely fantastic service from start to finish. So helpful and friendly from contacting about the tattoo, to arriving at the appointment and having an amazing experience. Can’t recommend enough and will definitely be coming back

Incredible tattoo studio

Incredible tattoo studio. Jane and Mick were friendly and helpful, fitting me in at the last minute and making sure I was happy with the design and placement. Reasonable prices and good advice given for aftercare etc- would definitely recommend!!

5. Evergreen Tattoo Studio

Website: https://www.evergreentattoostudio.com/

Address: 1 Boyd Street, Ouseburn

Contact: Contact form

Hours: Not listed

Evergreen Tattoo Studio has a genuinely calm space rather than the intimidating vibe some tattoo shops can have. Plants, natural light, and minimal decor set the tone, and tattoos sit alongside fine line, botanical, and nature-inspired realism as specialities.

They have 12 resident artists covering a wide stylistic range, and also host guest artists from the UK and further afield throughout the year.

Consent forms and accessibility details are both published upfront on the site, so there’s no guessing what to expect before you even reach out.

That said, there’s no central booking system here. Every artist handles their own enquiries and pricing directly through Instagram, and some only open their books for new appointments every few months.

Pros

  • Hand-poked and fine line styles
  • Relaxing, plant-filled studio
  • Great accessibility features
  • Clear upfront resources

Cons

  • No central booking system

My only place now for getting tattoos

My only place now for getting tattoos. Always recommend.

Have had tattoos done by both Nikita Rose & Monica Glass. Both excellent work. Always so happy with the ideas & result.

The studio is super friendly too. Laid back vibes. Super clean & welcoming.

All the girls have an array of skills for all tattoo desires! I’d love work done from all of them to be honest. 🤩

Healing – post tattoo is also unproblematic.

Highly recommend.

The studio is also accessible with a lift if you can’t do stairs (like me).

Am very happy

Came to evergreen for my first ever tattoo. I got tattooed by Elise and she was so lovely and welcoming, am very happy with my piece! The studio was very calming and had great music choices 🙂
