The 5 best counselling services in Liverpool that could change your life
I remember chatting with a friend a few months ago. What started as a light catch-up somehow drifted into a full unpacking of stress, work burnout, and the general chaos of adult life.
At one point, she even joked that she might need a psychologist or a counsellor. And honestly, it stuck with me because it’s a thought more people have than we tend to admit.
That’s the thing about mental health support: most of us don’t think about it until we really need it. And when that moment comes, finding the right help can feel overwhelming.
Liverpool, thankfully, has no shortage of options, but knowing where to start is a different story. That’s why our team looked for the best counselling services in Liverpool to help you navigate life a little better.
How much does a counselling session cost in Liverpool?
A private counselling session in Liverpool usually costs about £50–£110 per session. If you go through the National Health Service (NHS), sessions can be free, but waiting times can be longer.
1. Liverpool Counselling Association

Address: 40 Rodney St
Phone: +44 770 015 3066
Business hours:
- Monday to Sunday: 8 AM – 8 PM
Some people get discouraged when they don’t connect with their counsellors. The result? Wounds unhealed and a lack of will to continue the journey.
That rarely happens at Liverpool Counselling Association. Clients can choose their own counsellors or therapists. This is very important since the experience can shift when you’re really comfortable opening up.
We’ve heard about Sue’s empathy and practical tools, and even Nikki helping clients move from barely getting out of bed to reclaiming everyday routines.
It seems like the counsellors aren’t just passive listeners. They’re actively guiding clients toward tangible change.
The practical setup also deserves some credit. Offering sessions in the clinic, over the phone, and even through home visits makes the service accessible. It’s great for people with packed schedules or even mobility concerns.
That said, there was at least one feedback mentioning a missed confirmation and lateness.
She put us at ease right away and was incredibly professional
“Both my partner and I had a great experience with Nicky at Rodney Street. She put us at ease right away and was incredibly professional, whilst still feeling very welcoming. Nicky created a comfortable environment to talk freely and helped provide clarity. After 6 sessions, we both feel that we benefited immeasurably. Would highly recommend!”

She was very supportive and created an atmosphere that felt safe
“We had six couple sessions with Nicky. She was very supportive and created an atmosphere that felt safe. She was good at helping us rephrase what we were trying to say in order to help us communicate better. She helped us to make plans to move forward.”

2. Mindworks Counselling & Hypnotherapy

Address: 40 Rodney St
Phone: +44 151 706 8035
Business hours:
- Monday to Friday: 7 AM – 9 PM
- Saturday to Sunday: 9 AM – 7 PM
Most practices keep approaches like cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and hypnotherapy in separate lanes. At Mindworks, they’re deliberately mixed, but it works!
Based on our conversations with clients, this setup tends to work particularly well for people who’ve tried therapy but didn’t quite get to the root of things.
One person described going through multiple counselling styles that helped at first, but lost their magic over time. Once he’s worked with a counsellor here who used a more layered approach, though, the issues were really dug deep.
Clients also described the counsellors as methodical, kind, and grounding. Most of them felt a strong sense of safety and being genuinely understood.
The initial free consultation is also a smart touch. It lowers the barrier just enough to test the waters without committing.
Their approach requires more knowledge, so it’s understandable why their pricing is a bit higher than that of other practices. It might be too much for those with limited budgets.
She is an amazing counsellor and a lovely person
“Sam has transformed the life of my family member in a matter of weeks for crippling anxiety. We had tried counselling before but nothing worked. She is an amazing counsellor and a lovely person. I would definitely recommend her without hesitation. Thank you Sam so much for everything you have done for us.”

She has been able to work me through them
“I have suffered traumas 2 years ago and cannot praise Sam enough. She has been able to work me through them. I have now become more relaxed with myself. Years ago I trained as a counsellor, although I no longer use those skills I can appreciate her way of working which has been excellent.”

Sometimes, a practice doesn’t need multiple counsellors. Just one with a deep knowledge and empathy can work. A great example is Marianna, who’s leading Full Circle!
She’s an integrative counsellor, so she doesn’t rigidly stick to a single framework. She blends approaches like CBT, transactional analysis, and inner-child work depending on what the client actually needs in the moment.
Her approach seems to really translate into something tangible. Clients consistently describe sessions that evolve with them rather than follow a fixed script.
From what we’ve found, she also has a background with sexual abuse support services. This means she’s not just familiar with trauma, but experienced in holding it carefully.
That’s reinforced in feedback where clients talked about finally feeling safe enough to unpack long-standing issues at their own pace.
It was also interesting how she balances depth with humanity. Some clients reported arriving overwhelmed by grief and left with a sense of lightness and direction. They also mentioned laughter being part of the session.
That said, as a solo practitioner, it comes with trade-offs. If you’re someone who needs a lot of scheduling flexibility, this might not be ideal.
I have absolutely loved my journey with Marianna
“I have absolutely loved my journey with Marianna and can’t thank her enough for helping me get to where I am now. It’s honestly been an incredible experience and the knowledge and understanding and support she’s offered me has been amazing. The EMDR was life changing and I foudn it so easy to open up to Marianna as she is so compassionate and non judgmental. It’s honestly been the best thing I’ve ever done for myself and going forward for the first time I feel l have full control over my life.”

Marianna has such a warm and welcoming presence
“I have visited full circle counselling following the loss of my mum. Marianna has such a warm and welcoming presence. This has allowed me to be open and vulnerable throughout my grief journey. I have felt listened too, supported and validated throughout. I couldn’t believe how easy it was to feel comfortable and allow myself to be so vulnerable without any judgement. With each session I have come away feeling stronger and I feel I have gained wisdom. If you feel you need to talk for whatever reason, I highly recommend sessions with Marianna. These sessions are so valuable and worth every penny. Give it a go and I promise you will feel more enriched for doing so.”

4. Beautiful Minds Talking Therapy

Address: 88 Rodney St
Phone: +44 740 325 0051
Business hours:
- Monday: Closed
- Tuesday to Friday: 10 AM – 7 PM
- Saturday to Sunday: Closed
When we looked into Beautiful Minds, it didn’t take long for one thing to stand out. It leans heavily into deeper therapeutic work, particularly trauma. That shapes who it works brilliantly for.
Barry leads the practice using eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR) most of the time. That’s a big thing since not every counselling service is properly equipped for trauma processing, but Barry’s qualified and experienced to do it.
He builds strong and trusting relationships with his clients. When we spoke to clients, we’ve heard a lot of emphasis on empathy, clarity, and even a touch of humour.
His client demographic is also impressive. He deals with adults and kids. He knows how to deal with aggression and self-harm, which most teenagers face in that period of their lives.
However, Barry is on a solo operation. There’s less flexibility around appointment times and the possibility of longer waitlists.
I always feel understood and heard by Barry
“I have seen Barry for the past 3 years, he has been an excellent support through the most difficult times in my life. I look forward to my sessions and always feel understood and heard by Barry. I would recommend anyone to use Barry’s services for any issues you are struggling with.”

Barry has been an incredible listener
“Therapy has helped me immensely. I always debated whether to do it or not, but so happy I did. Barry has been an incredible listener and sounding board, giving different points of view and tips / coping mechanisms, that I have put into practice with great results! He’s helped me through childhood issues, coping with ADHD, and navigating this troubled world. Could not recommend enough, thank you for all the help and support Barry!”

5. CSH Counselling

Business hours:
- Monday to Thursday: 8 AM – 9 PM
- Friday: 8 AM – 4 PM
- Saturday: Closed
- Sunday: 10 AM – 4 PM
David, who leads CSH Counselling, has built a reputation for making people feel at ease quickly. A lot of his clients admitted they walked in unsure and walked out feeling surprisingly comfortable within a short time.
There’s also a clear pattern in how clients describe their progress. This doesn’t mean that they instantly feel better, but it’s more specific shifts. We’re talking about confidence building, processing past experiences, and changing how they think about situations.
One person even pointed out that he was finally able to accept and move on from significant life events.
We also appreciate that David offers the Employee Assistance Programme (EAP). For businesses, this could be a strong option, especially for those dealing with team morale, performance dips, or interpersonal issues.
It’s flexible too, offering both ongoing and one-off support. That said, the pricing does stand out. It’s higher than the other ones we’ve looked into, but it seems worth it.
He’s made it so easy being someone I can open up to
“Since I’ve been seeing David, I am so much more confident in myself and most importantly able to accept and move on from significant things that have happened in my past. He’s made it so easy being someone I can open up to and has always been there when I’ve needed him. We’ve worked through multiple issues and have significantly changed my way of thinking about things. I don’t know where I would be without his counselling and constant support.”

David was so great, understanding and welcoming to me
“David is such an amazing counseller, like a lot of people I was super nervous and skeptical about talking to someone but David was so great, understanding and welcoming to me and I felt so much better about myself and comfortable in myself after seeing him for a couple of months and I really thank him so much for that. Definitely recommend him as someone for everyone to talk to.”
