The 5 best dance studios in Birmingham to step up your movesSolid communicationThe 5 best dance studios in Birmingham to step up your moves

Studio Facilities: We chose studios with well-maintained floors, clear mirrors, reliable sound systems, and clean spaces.

Teaching Style: We focused on studios with instructors who explain movements clearly, demonstrate properly, and adjust their teaching based on who’s in the room.

Range of Classes Offered: We prioritised studios offering a solid mix of styles and levels, from beginner-friendly sessions to more advanced classes.

Value: We assessed whether the quality of teaching, facilities, and overall experience justified the price they offer.

I can’t be the only one who gets sucked into dance videos. There’s something weirdly satisfying about watching people move in perfect sync.

And when they’re inside the studio, you can see the hard work—missed counts and sweat. Honestly, it makes the whole thing feel human, and that’s motivating.

Eventually, that motivation nudged me to actually look into dancing myself. One casual search snowballed into a full-blown research, and soon enough, I’d roped in my team to check out dance studios in Birmingham.

Here are the ones that we think actually deliver good value.

How much do dance studios in Birmingham charge for their services?

Dance studios in Birmingham charge roughly £6–£12 for a drop-in group class, and £30–£40 per hour for private lessons. Studio hire tends to land around £20–£90 an hour.

Valentine Theatre School is a place where dance is treated like a proper craft you grow into over time.

Their class offering is built for students who want variety and progression rather than being boxed into one style. Ballet, tap, gymnastics, and more all sit under the same roof. It’s convenient for those who like to try everything.

Communication got a lot of praise, especially when schedules, rehearsals, and competitions are involved.

We also love that the coaches pay attention to each child. They help them play to their strengths while still working on areas they need to improve. They’re very friendly and supportive too, which a lot of the parents we talked to really appreciate.

Training-wise, this is clearly a serious studio. Students regularly compete and do well. They were even qualified for big events like the Global Dance Open in Birmingham.

That’s why we can say that this isn’t a low-commitment kind of place. The training can be intense, and some students train most days.

For families with busy schedules or kids who just want a relaxed class for fun, this might feel like too much.

Pros

  • Strong focus on long-term development
  • Wide range of styles
  • Supportive and friendly atmosphere
  • Solid communication
  • Personalised attention
  • Proven competitive results

Cons

  • High level of commitment required
  • Not ideal for those with tight schedules

Only a few weeks in and already her faith in dance has been restored

“My daughter recently moved to Valentine’s from another dance school, and we couldn’t be happier. Only a few weeks in and already her faith in dance has been restored. Everyone is helpful and friendly, and the communication is amazing. My daughter and I are very excited for her to start her journey at VTS. Thank you Claire and team for making us feel very welcome”

She has progressed so much since joining this school

“My daughter moved after 7 years at another school, she has progressed so much since joining this school. She is constantly supported and encouraged to play to her strengths and improve on her weakness. It has proved such love for my daughter and has built up her confidence so much that my son has now joined and has also progressed hugely since joining. A lovely family oriented school.”

2. XI Dance Studio

Address: 90 Wrentham St

Business hours:

  • Monday to Sunday: 12 PM – 8:30 PM

Website

If you enjoy watching and learning K-POP dance covers on YouTube, XI Dance Studio is worth checking out. Here, you have dance instructors who’ll guide you.

Many of them are active K-POP cover dancers or experienced choreographers, and that shows in how performance-driven the classes feel.

People talk a lot about learning details, musicality, and how to actually look good while dancing. It’s not just getting through the routine.

They’re patient and happy to break things down if you’re struggling too. They lean heavily into K-POP dance, but they also cover hip-hop, jazz-funk, and waacking.

We also found it helpful that the class schedule is laid out online. That way, you’re not guessing what’s running or showing up for a class that doesn’t exist.

Clients backed this up, and regulars seem to like the option of class packs or recurring memberships if they’re training consistently.

The studio hire is another big win. They have two studio rooms, and all the equipment is provided.

However, they’re not the cheapest studio around. But considering everything we’ve known, we’d say the lessons are worth the money.

Pros

  • Expert instructors
  • Attention to detail
  • Patient teaching
  • Variety of styles
  • Organised scheduling
  • Flexible memberships
  • Studio hire available

Cons

  • Higher pricing

Spacious and professional

“Booked this place for a K-pop class. Spacious, professional, and the lighting makes you feel like you’re on stage. Highly recommended!”

FABRIC is a dance studio that looks very professional yet remains welcoming. The space itself is gorgeous.

The big windows let in loads of natural light, the mirrors are huge, and the floors are super clean.

From what we’ve heard, the classes are fun and enriching. Students often highlight the passion and versatility of the instructors, who cover everything from ballet and contemporary to fusion and urban styles.

We also appreciate that there are student discounts offered, which makes them more accessible.

FABRIC also does studio hire. Studios 1 and 2 can combine into a big space for up to 60 people.

This already has air conditioning, sound systems, and changing rooms. It’s perfect for workshops or rehearsals.

  • Flexible studio hire options

Penelope’s Dance Studio is all about classical ballet and contemporary dance. They welcome everyone from little toddlers to adults.

From what we’ve heard, everyone loved how supportive and nurturing the atmosphere is. The teachers aren’t just great dancers—they also really care about each student’s growth.

One parent told us her child consistently gets constructive feedback, which has translated into noticeable growth in both performance and poise.

Another student shared how she got to perform in shows and events because of the studio.

The classes are set up to progress through levels, so everyone moves at the same pace as their peers.

The studio is designed with sprung floors, mirrors, barres, and even an on-site dancewear shop. This makes things super convenient.

I would definitely recommend Penelope’s Dance Studio

“Having only joined Penelope’s Dance Studio just over a year ago it has been such an incredible experience! I have received such constructive feedback which has shown in the immeasurable growth I have seen in my dancing. I have had the opportunity to perform in incredible shows and attend the International Theatre Dance Awards and many more exciting experiences. Penny, Kate and Alex’s teaching style and dedication to helping me achieve my ambitions in the dance world is so wonderful and something that is so special about the studio which I why I have loved every minute I’ve been there. As a student who travels from over 2 hours away multiple days per week, I would definitely recommend Penelope’s Dance Studio to anyone looking to nurture their child’s love for dance in a healthy and happy way!!”

They make even the toughest classes enjoyable

“Miss Penny and Miss Kate are second to none. They are always sensitive to the needs of their students. They make even the toughest classes enjoyable, and with their positive energy will pass that same joy on to young and older students. My daughter will always go to Penelope’s to take a class when she visits home. Would highly recommended without a second thought.”

  • Monday to Sunday: Open 24 hours

The Vault Studios is always buzzing, and our team quickly understood why.

A lot of the love goes straight to the instructors, especially Holly, who’s also the studio’s founder. They’re welcoming and encouraging.

One parent even shared how her daughter was made to feel comfortable from day one. She also landed some pretty major opportunities thanks to the team.

They offer a lot: ballet, commercial, street dancing, and more. They all run under the same roof. This way, dancers don’t need to bounce between studios.

On top of that, they run workshops, competitions, and live performances. Clients said it helped create that strong “dance family” vibe.

The studio hire options are another big plus. One of their studios is always used by dancers and artists for rehearsals and shoots.

Mirror, good sound with Bluetooth, spotlighting—it’s got it all. Set-up and pack-down are included, which is handy.

We’d recommend watching the clock, though, as overruns can cost extra.

Classes are very popular here too, so you might need to book ahead.

Pros

  • Lively and welcoming atmosphere
  • Supportive and encouraging instructors
  • Real opportunities
  • Huge variety of styles
  • Offers workshops and live performances
  • Studio hire available
  • Well-equipped

Cons

  • Limited scheduling

The whole family at the Vault Studios have welcomed them with open arms!

“My girls love dancing with Holly! She is incredible at what she does, and the whole family at the vault studios have welcomed them with open arms! Such a vibe in there! Holly is amazing with the kids and wants them all too succeed in what they love most! Everyone is so talented!”

In such a short time, my daughter’s confidence has grown

“My daughter started summer 2022 and in such a short time her confidence has grown, this is down to Holly and her dancers ensuring she felt welcomed and encouraged her to be herself. Holly cares for all of her dancers and their future goals, already my daughter has been on 3 amazing opportunities including opening the Nathan Dawe Show at Utilita Arena. Huge thanks to Holly and the dance family we can’t wait for the upcoming year”
