1. Beecham Peacock Solicitors

Address: 2nd Floor, South New England House, 10 Ridley Pl
Phone: +44 191 232 3048
Business hours:
- Monday to Friday: 9 AM – 5 PM
- Saturday to Sunday: Closed
One of the first things that stood out to us about Beecham Peacock Solicitors is just how experienced their team is. They have 180 years of combined experience and have handled complex family cases, like child custody battles and domestic violence.
It’s impressive that their team includes specialists in areas like emergency protection orders and childcare proceedings.
Some of their solicitors are even on the Law Society Children Panel. This means they’re trusted experts when it comes to representing children and families in difficult legal situations.
Clients we heard from praised their empathy. A few even said that their solicitors were willing to talk outside of normal working hours, which isn’t something you usually get at most firms.
We also appreciate how up-to-date they are. They help with no-fault divorces and support civil partnership separations and same-sex marriages.
For a firm with such a long history, it’s good to see that they’ve moved with the times and take modern family structures seriously.
That said, we did find their fees are a little higher compared to some of the other firms we looked into.
She guided me through it and discussed all the options well
“I went through this solicitor for divorce services, and Fiona was absolutely outstanding. Despite the difficult and complex nature of the case, she guided me through it and discussed all options well. I felt completely at ease under her expertise. The outcome was far better than I thought. Will be using them to help buy our new house! Highly recommended.”

2. Kabir Family Law Newcastle

Address: Clavering House, Clavering Pl
Business hours:
- Monday to Tuesday: 9 AM – 5:30 PM
- Wednesday: 9 AM – 5 PM
- Thursday to Friday: 9 AM – 5:30 PM
- Saturday to Sunday: Closed
Kabir’s exclusive focus on family law caught our attention. This means they have more specialised knowledge and stay up to date with the latest in this area.
It’s a real advantage since they’ve dealt with a variety of family issues, like divorce, child custody, and even more complex matters like parental alienation and protection orders.
We like that they work closely with each client to create a plan that fits their emotional and financial situation. This shows they understand that each family case is different and needs a personal approach.
It’s also reassuring that they’d like to stick with one lawyer throughout the process as much as possible. Personally, our team thinks it’s also a smart idea because it helps avoid delays and extra costs that can happen when you switch lawyers.
Plus, the free initial consultation is a nice touch. It offers people a no-pressure opportunity to get clear about their options and expected costs before committing.
We also noticed that Kabir Family Law supports not just parents, but also grandparents who want to stay in contact with their grandchildren. Not many firms offer this, so this could be their strong suit too.
On the downside, some clients have mentioned that communication can be slow at times, with delays in responses or updates.
I’m delighted with the outcome
“Thank you to Ehsan, who has been an invaluable support in getting me through a tough divorce and child arrangements. I was assisted through the process in great detail and was fully advised throughout the process strategically. I’m delighted with the outcome of getting shared custody of my children and keeping my two properties. I’d have no hesitation in recommending Kabir Family Law to anyone in need of a family lawyer.”

Thank you for the help, support and encouragement to continue fighting
“Best decision I made coming to Kabir Family Law! They worked incredibly hard on my case and have finally helped me secure a full custody court order over my daughter and the right for me to relocate abroad with her. I was always told by my father that I’d be forced to remain in the UK, and was also advised by many family lawyers in Newcastle before coming to this firm. Thank you for the help, support and encouragement to continue fighting for what’s right. I would strongly recommend to anyone looking for a top family law practice!”

3. Stowe Family Law LLP

Address: 2nd Floor, City Quadrant, 11 Waterloo St
Phone: +44 330 041 6037
Business hours:
- Monday to Friday: 8:30 AM – 7 PM
- Saturday to Sunday: 9 AM – 5 PM
The scale of Stow is hard to ignore. They’re the biggest family law in the UK, and that give them access to more resources than smaller firms usually have.
That includes in-house specialists who can help if your case takes unexpected turns or involves overlapping issues like finances and children.
We also loved how each lawyer we looked into in their Newcastle team brings a specific area of focus.
For example, Nicky Hunter leads the team and handles complex financial matters. Meanwhile, David Allen seems particularly strong in contested children’s arrangements, and Sarah Crilly covers divorce and finance.
The firm also puts emphasis on their tailored support. One client, for instance, worked with David Allen to secure a 50/50 care agreement for his daughter.
David didn’t sugarcoat things. He gave advice that may not have been easy to hear, but it clearly came from a place of wanting what was best for the child, not just appeasing the client.
That said, pricing is something to keep in mind. They do offer a fixed-fee divorce package for simple cases. But if your case involves finances, kids, or any other party, costs quickly shift to an hourly structure.
We found estimates for those cases typically ranged from £2,500 to £25,000+, depending on how long things go on or whether the court is involved.
Everyone went above and beyond
“Orla at Stowe Family Law has been absolutely fantastic throughout my case. Orla always kept me informed during every step of my journey throughout this period of my life. Thank you to Orla and her team at Stowe Family Law, every single one of you went above and beyond to achieve the end result we all wanted and needed. I would recommend Stowe Family Law to anyone needing advice and guidance throughout daunting family law issues.”

Kept me up to date throughout the whole divorce process
“I highly recommend David Allen. He was excellent throughout the process of my divorce, which was quite complicated at the beginning. David kept me up to date throughout the whole divorce process and the next steps taken, as it can be overwhelming at the time. David was also very supportive and his knowledge and advice were second to none. Thank you so much, David Allen, as I got the outcome I wanted.”

4. Silk Family Law

Address: One, Trinity, Broad Chare
Phone: +44 191 500 0777
Business hours:
- Monday to Friday: 9 AM – 5 PM
- Saturday to Sunday: Closed
We think having their own family barrister is a big advantage for Silk Family Law. Most law firms need to bring in a barrister from outside if your case goes to court, but here, everything is done within the same team.
That helps things move faster and avoids unnecessary delays or back-and-forth.
They also seem to be really strong when it comes to complicated financial cases within families.
From what we heard from some of their clients, most cases they’ve handled involved farms, businesses, and international elements. They also seem comfortable dealing with trusts, pensions, and inheritance claims, which aren’t always easy to untangle.
That said, a few people did mention that their pricing could be clearer. In some cases, charges were taken off after being questioned, so it’s worth keeping an eye on your bill and asking if anything seems off.
On the brighter side, several clients told us the team is emotionally supportive. A lot of firms tend to focus only on the legal side or just try to be friendly without real substance.
Silk seems to manage both, which makes a big difference when you’re going through something as personal as family issues.
I was always kept up to date with what was happening
“The overall strategy and the attention to detail shown by Kim and her team made all the difference in my divorce. I was expertly guided through each stage, was always kept up to date with what was happening and never doubted I was in safe hands. Hopefully I don’t need to use their services again, but I’d definitely recommend them to others!”

Meticulous in their handling of the paperwork
“Exceptional service. They stepped into my case partway through, and from the first hearing, they represented me the situation improved. Meticulous in their handling of the paperwork and compassionate in their handling of the situation. In matters of the family, you want the best, and that comes at a premiu,m which is well worth paying, to have the best at your side. I hope not to need their services in futur,e but won’t hesitate to call them if I do.”

5. David Gray Solicitors LLP

Address: Old County Court, 56 Westgate Rd
Phone: +44 191 232 9547
Business hours:
- Monday to Friday: 9 AM – 5 PM
- Saturday to Sunday: Closed
David Gray Solicitors having over 25 specialists focused just on family and childcare law definitely gives them an edge.
Clients are more likely to work with someone who really knows their particular situation, especially in complex cases like forced marriage or child abduction.
On top of that, they also have 10 partners and a large support team, so they have solid resources and a wide range of skills under one roof.
Their coverage of family law is a strength. They deal with everything from divorce and domestic abuse to more sensitive and modern issues like gender recognition. It shows they’re keeping up with the changing needs of families today.
We also really like their early “couples meetings” option, where both parties can sit down with a solicitor to explore the best way forward before things get too complicated.
It’s a smart and refreshing idea that could help people avoid drawn-out legal battles and could save time, money, and stress.
But this kind of approach only really works if both parties are open to it. In high-conflict situations, that might not always be possible.
We also came across one case where someone said their solicitor didn’t show up for a scheduled Zoom consultation. It might have been a one-off issue or due to a last-minute change, but it’s still something to be aware of.
Brilliant service and worked well with me
“I would highly recommend Sukhi Patter for family matters, for her brilliant service, working well with me and understanding what we wanted, paying attention to detail and being patient with me. Thank you, David Gray for outstanding service.”
