The 5 best psychologists in Birmingham you’ll feel comfortable talking to
Many people give up on therapy before it even begins – not because they refuse to accept help but because the process feels new, confusing, or unwelcoming.
Maybe you reached out to a clinic and never heard back. Or maybe you successfully booked a consultation, only to feel rushed or unheard. Experiences like these can quickly turn something hopeful into something discouraging.
Not wanting anyone to give up on their mental health just because of a few bad apples, our team scoured the city for the best psychologists in Birmingham. We ran anonymous surveys, talked to patients, and verified credentials.
When you’re ready to seek support, we hope this list helps make that first step feel a little easier.
How much does a psychologist charge in Birmingham?
A psychologist in Birmingham may charge from £100 to £250 per session (50-60 minutes). More specialised ones, like a child psychologist or trauma specialist, charge higher. Also, individual therapies are priced differently from group sessions.
1. Swift Psychology Services

Address: APEX HOUSE, Calthorpe Rd
Contact Details: +441217691474
Operating Hours:
- Monday – Friday: 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM
- Saturday: 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM
With 30 years in practice, it’s hard to ignore Swift Psychology Services when you’re looking for the best psychologists in Birmingham. They have a well-established presence in the city, and are one ofthe most trusted clinics by locals.
Beyond their experience, what we really love about them is their focus on thoughtful, evidence-based care.
They practice a range of therapeutic approaches, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Interpersonal Therapy (IPT).
For us, this flexibility in approach is very important as it allows the team to tailor therapy rather than forcing clients to a single method.
Dr Ben Gibbons, Swif’s clinical psychologist, also won us over. He works with children, adults, and families. This makes him a great option for anyone looking for versatile support across different life stages.
The team also come across as warm and approachable. One parent shared that the clinicians took extra time to make her daughter feel comfortable before starting therapy, which really matters when working with children or anyone feeling anxious.
Pricing is reasonable. They even offer a free 15-minute consultation to see how they work before committing.
The only complaint we’ve heard is about follow-ups. Some felt frustrated at the delays in follow-ups during the initial consultations.
Kind and patient therapist
“We’re so grateful for the support our daughter received, especially from Laura. She was so kind and patient and really took the time to make her feel comfortable.”
-Mr. John Blaines, Google Review
Objective and non-pressured
“My family have been working with Mike Swift of Swift Psychology services for over 18 months now and we have found the engagement to be very objective, non-pressured and supportive with fantastic results for my Son who had tried a number of different providers but could not gel with them.
Since working wit Mike, my Son has now got his life back and we are very happy to recommend Mike and his approach with CBT therapy to anyone in need of this type of support.”

2. Phinity Therapy

Address: 95 Hagley Rd
Contact Details: +441212957373
Operating Hours: Monday – Sunday: 8:00 AM – 9:00 PM
When we were asking around about psychologists in Birmingham, many brought up Phinity Therapy. A common trait praised by those we spoke with is the clinic’s psychologists’ responsiveness and respect.
Their environment and practitioners are welcoming and non-pressuring, putting patients at ease the moment they walk in. A non-intimidating space is non-negotiable for us, as we believe it allows patients to open up better.
When it comes to the issues they cater to, it’s impressively wide. They support almost all mental health issues, including autism spectrum disorder, panic attacks, and gambling addiction.
We also like that they offer free personalised nutrition and supplement plans. Though optional, it gives that extra layer of support that can help clients improve their overall well-being.
We also appreciate that they accept insurance coverage from different providers. This is already a huge help, especially for clients who are a bit anxious about costs.
The main drawback is demand. Because they cater to a wide range of needs, wait times can be longer. If you can plan ahead, though, many patients feel the quality of care is worth the wait.
Build good rapport
“have been seeing Rehanna for almost three years. She is amazing at her job I couldn’t recommend her more. She excels at being understanding, compassionate and still professional while building a really good rapport. As I said, I would recommend her to everyone. She is great in person and remotely, and works around my schedule which is much appreciated.”
-Mr. Tally Sims, Google Review
Thoughtful and reflective approach
“I have been seeing Janice for over a year, and during this time she has helped me work through numerous issues with patience and care. Her thoughtful and reflective approach consistently offers valuable insight, creating a safe and supportive space where I feel able to share complex feelings. Janice helps to unravel each layer to see each more clearly – a process that has guided me toward finding sustainable ways to move forward and reach a better place in my life.”

3. Kay’s Counselling

Address: 71 Vyse St
Contact Details: +441216796200
Operating Hours:
- Tuesday – Friday: 9:00 AM – 9:00 PM
- Saturday – Monday: 9:00 AM – 9:00 PM
Kay’s Counselling is one of the top psychology clinics in Birmingham that we found suitable for busy individuals. Their evening appointments make it easier to fit therapy around work or other commitments.
In addition to that, they offer telephone and online sessions, which adds another level of convenience and accessibility.
What really won us over, though, is their integrative counselling. It’s an approach that’s very flexible, mixing various therapeutic methods to create a more personalised treatment plan.
For instance, they sometimes combine CBT and Gestalt techniques for patients with trauma. It’s not just random mixing either; it’s a skilful, careful blending of techniques that only clinical psychologists can do.
In fact, through that, many patients feel even more supported and heard than ever before. They shared that they learned to think clearly, understand the root causes of their issues, and build a much kinder relationship with themselves.
We also really appreciate the discounted rates they offer to students and unemployed individuals, making their services accessible to more people.
The only catch? They have strict appointment policies. If you’re late, there’s a higher chance you’ll totally miss your appointment for the day.
Professional and helpful
“I referred a friend to Kay’s after months of being on an emotional rollercoaster, family and friends tried to intervene but we got to a point where we had to seek professional advice. We are so glad we did, not only does my friend feel better in himself but to quote “feels more understood”, exactly what he was looking for. On behalf of the rest of us, thanks to everyone at Kay’s! You lot might have given him a new lease on life.”

Thoughtful and well-informed therapist
“I cannot recommend Robert Young enough. From our very first session, I was impressed by how knowledgeable he is; he always had thoughtful, well-informed insights and strategies. He is also very thorough and I never felt rushed. we always covered the material fully, which made a huge difference. The most powerful part of the experience was how I felt after our sessions: I always left feeling lighter and more hopeful. If you’re looking for a counseller, he’s a fantastic choice.”

Contact Details: +441217771675
Operating Hours:
- Monday – Friday: 9:00 AM – 8:00 PM

Solihull Wellbeing Clinic stood out for its structured, assessment-driven approach to psychological care. They use well-established assessment tools to ensure treatment plans are aligned with each client’s specific needs and goals.
They support a wide range of mental health concerns, from attachment issues to personality-related challenges.
We also noticed consistent praise for the clinic’s responsiveness, especially Dr Bobby. Many patients said that he replies quickly to queries and is very quick to change his approach when needed.
The clinic itself deserves praise too. Rooms are well-furnished and consistently clean, which greatly contributes to the positive experience of patients.
Another thing we also love about this clinic is its free orientation call. This is a perfect opportunity for clients to ask questions and determine whether their clinic is the right fit before proceeding to sessions.
If there’s a drawback, it’s that they offer too many services. Aside from psychological support, they also offer classes and community engagement, which can sometimes limit availability.

5. JDxTherapy

Address: 100 Browning St
Contact Details: +447481499830
Operating Hours: Monday – Thursday: 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM
What JDxTherapy does best over other psychologists in Birmingham is creating a safe space where patients can talk without feeling rushed or judged.
The founder, Jas, who’s a trained psychologist and Integrative Counsellor, knows exactly how to build rapport with clients before anything else. He then uses this connection to create a non-pressuring space where clients feel heard.
In fact, many of those we’ve talked to shared that they stayed at the clinic for the psychologists’ compassionate and relaxed approach.
What we also really admire about Jas is his use of his clients’ unique experiences to treat their mental health issues, rather than focusing solely on symptoms. That makes therapy more personal and meaningful.
He also offers a discounted rate for students and low-income individuals, which shows Jas’s genuine effort in making mental health support more accessible to many.
He also offers therapy sessions online, so busy individuals and introverts can still get the help they need without pushing themselves too hard.
And although he has a small team, Jas remains committed to keeping wait times short for his clients.
Great therapist
“Jas is a great therapist, I always feel completely understood and listened to even when I’m having trouble explaining my feelings/thoughts. Thank you Jas!”

“After about 6 months of therapy with JD x Therapy, I’ve realised just how useful it’s been. The sessions are very relaxed and reflective, almost like chatting with a friend. I always feel comfortable and Jas helps to guide me through bigger issues or offer a supportive perspective on anything I’m struggling with. Jas is able to remain objective and offer challenge where it’s needed without compromising the guidance and support I need.”
