The 10 best things to do in Liverpool if you’re looking for adventure

As someone who’s been in Liverpool for a year, I’ve had those moments where I thought I’d seen everything the city has to offer. But Liverpool has a way of surprising you.

There is always something new to see and do in this city, from its famous music scene and football culture to its historic docks and busy nightlife.

And to be honest, it makes me love showing friends around even more because there are so many stories and places to see.

If you’re thinking of visiting the city or looking to try something new, here are some of the best things to do in Liverpool that my friends and I absolutely loved!

1. Step into music history at The Beatles Story

Operating hours:

  • Monday to Sunday: 9 AM – 5 PM

Price: ££

This museum is a dream come true for Beatles fans. There are interactive displays and rare memorabilia. There’s even a copy of the Cavern Club, where the band played their first show.

Paul McCartney’s voice on the audio guides makes it sound like the band is telling you their story directly.

There are a lot of people, so it can be hard to get through the interactive displays at times. But the way the story is told and the atmosphere make it worth going.

Pro Tip:
Book tickets in advance! They sell out quickly, especially on weekends. If you can, aim for an early time slot to avoid the biggest crowds.

2. Wander around Albert Dock

The Albert Dock is one of Liverpool’s most famous places. It has beautiful red-brick warehouses, museums, galleries, and restaurants. It’s a UNESCO World Heritage site that shows how history and modern life can blend together.

We liked walking along the waterfront and seeing the street performers and cafés. There are always things happening, like art shows and pop-up markets.

We can feel like we’ve been a part of Liverpool’s long and interesting history and its present, even if we only stay for a short time.

Pro Tip:
Visit at sunset for some of the best photo opportunities along the water. Consider walking along the dock in both directions to discover hidden galleries and quiet corners.

3. Tour Anfield Stadium

Price:

  • ££

You have to see Anfield if you like football because it’s where Liverpool FC plays. You can see the press area, the locker rooms, and even the sidelines of the field on the stadium walks.

From the Kop stand, you can feel the great excitement on game days. There are trophies, old kits, and multimedia displays in the museum that show the best times in the club’s past.

What really brings the club’s long past to life are the interesting stories that the guides tell about the players and famous games. You feel energized even if you don’t like football because of how big the stadium is and how excited the people are.

Pro Tip:
For a full experience, get the museum and stadium package. Arrive there early so you can look at each exhibit at your own pace without feeling rushed.

The moment we walked into Liverpool Cathedral, we were blown away. It felt like we were in a living piece of history because of the Gothic style, huge stained glass windows, and detailed stone carving.

We really liked the Great Space exhibit, which tells the interesting story of how the cathedral was built.

It’s hard to get to the top of the tower, but trust us, it’s worth it! The views of Liverpool, the Mersey, and even the Welsh hills on a clear day are amazing.

We also enjoy strolling through the smaller chapels and the well-kept gardens that are around the cathedral. We stayed longer than we had planned because it was a place where history, art, and people came together.

Pro Tip:
If you can, we recommend taking a guided tour. It’s a great way to find out things you might miss on your own. Wear shoes that are comfortable for the twer climb. There are more than 300 steps, but the view from the top is unforgettable.

It was so much fun cruising along the River Mersey and seeing Liverpool from a whole new angle. The ferry ride gives you great views of the waterfront, the Royal Liver Building, and the bustling docks.

You can also learn about the city’s long maritime history from the commentary on board. The skyline lights start to reflect on the water during sunset rides, which makes them even more magical.

We loved seeing famous places like the Three Graces and thinking about what life was like when these docks were full of busy ships and sailors. We felt like both tourists and locals on the ride.

It was both relaxing and exciting. It’s also a great place to take pictures, especially if you get a spot on the top deck.

Pro Tip:
The River Explorer Cruise is the best way to experience Liverpool’s waterfront. It can get windy on the river even on sunny days, so bring a light jacket.

One of the best parks in Liverpool is Sefton Park. It features a large lake, wide paths, and the historic Palm House, making it a great spot to enjoy a picnic or take it easy.

People were playing with their kids, joggers were going by, and even some street entertainers as we walked around the lake. The park also has many hidden areas, flower beds, and statues that make it fun to explore.

It was fun to relax by the pond and enjoy the view.

Pro Tip:
Bring a picnic or snacks to enjoy by the lake; it’s a great way to spend a lazy afternoon. If you love photography, try visiting in the morning when the light highlights the park’s garden beautifully.

Tate Liverpool is a great spot in the UK to see new art. There is art by British artists as well as artists from other places. The changing exhibits keep things interesting, and the new pieces in each room tell a unique story.

We loved strolling through the modern art exhibits and taking a break at the café with its lovely view of the water. Each gallery seemed to have its own story to tell, and the whole place had a creative vibe.

Even if you don’t usually like modern art, the displays and environment will make you feel good.

Liverpool’s creative and nightlife centre is the Baltic Triangle. It has street art, independent bars, and places to hear live music. We love walking around town to see murals, quirky shops, and pop-up events that show off local talent.
