The 5 best physiotherapy clinics in Newcastle to help you get back up

  • Practitioner Qualifications: We looked at the experience, certifications, and specialised training of the physiotherapists.
  • Treatment Modalities: We checked what type of therapies and techniques are offered, like manual therapy, electrotherapy, or exercise programs. Variety and suitability for different conditions matter.
  • Patient Outcomes: We assessed how effective the clinic’s treatments are by reviewing client feedback. Are patients recovering well? Are there follow-ups to track progress?
  • Facilities and Equipment: We considered the clinic’s environment, cleanliness, and the quality of its equipment.

I’ve had my fair share of bumps and scrapes over the years, but nothing quite like the motorcycle accident that almost ended my “stunt rider” career. Thankfully, I made it through. But let’s just say it was serious enough to rethink my life choices.

After a successful surgery (shout out to my orthopaedic specialist), walking wasn’t as easy as it was. But it was physiotherapy that helped me get back on my feet, though.

I can honestly say, it changes lives. I can attest to that. And because I like to return the favour, my team and I rounded up the best physiotherapy clinics in Newcastle that can help you get moving again.

How much does a private physiotherapy session cost in Newcastle?

A private physiotherapy session in Newcastle typically ranges from £45 to £75 for an initial assessment. Follow-up treatment sessions cost less, around £40–60.

Many physiotherapy clinics are satisfied with giving assessments and a few follow-up sessions, but it’s not like that in JL PhysioFit. They provide a full recovery ecosystem.

They offer a wide range of treatment options, but we found their four-step recovery system particularly unique. It combines clinical physiotherapy with tailored one-to-one studio rehab and physio-led Pilates.

Their recovery programs are structured, focusing on gradually rebuilding strength and confidence. It’s easy to track progress because they retest the same exercises by the end.

Many appreciated that physios share the personalised exercises through an app or email. This way, they can still do their routine without pushing for unnecessary appointments.

Patients said the Pilates classes are challenging for people who want to push themselves, but still flexible for those who prefer a gentler pace. It’s definitely a sign of skilled physios running the sessions.

They can also tackle advanced pain management treatments. With laser therapies available, a lot of patients reported major pain relief after treatments.

We couldn’t deny the clinic’s astounding reputation, so we understand why a lot of people go here for treatments. We recommend calling ahead to book your appointments to secure the slots.

Pros

  • Full recovery approach
  • Wide range of treatments
  • Personalised programmes
  • Transparent pricing
  • Advanced pain management options

Cons

  • Appointments and classes fill up quickly

I had a great experience throughout

“I completed a 12-week golf fitness programme with Rob and had a great experience throughout. He put together a really well-structured programme, and at the end we re-tested my strength and flexibility using the same exercises, which made it easy to see the improvements. I’ve got no complaints at all. The programme has massively improved the distance I can hit the ball, and I feel fitter and stronger overall as a result.”

Lots of variety with the exercises so you never get bored

“Been to reformer classes with 6 different physios, they have all been exceptional. Challenges if you want them but options if not. Lots of variety with the exercises so you never get bored. Great booking system, you know you have your weekly slots reserved but easy to cancel a class and gain a credit for use when it suits you better. Can’t recommend it enough!”

Starting physiotherapy isn’t exactly something most people look forward to, but NE Physio tries to make that first step a little easier. Their £15 off initial consultations is like a friendly nudge to get started.

The physios take their time to identify the root cause of injuries rather than just treating symptoms. It makes a big difference, especially for those dealing with something that keeps coming back.

The clinic seems to lean toward sports-focused physiotherapy. Most of the patients we spoke to were athletes who recovered from sports injuries. They said recovery was easy because the exercises were clearly explained.

From what we’ve heard, the clinic sends follow-up emails after appointments with videos and detailed instructions for the rehab plan. People who were doing exercises incorrectly between sessions found them useful.

We love how the clinic makes its services accessible too. They accept health insurance from several providers.

One thing to keep in mind is that their standard treatment sessions last about 30 minutes. While that’s not unusual, some clinics offer longer appointments. For those with a complex condition, half an hour might feel a bit short.

Pros

  • Thorough assessments
  • Sports rehab expertise
  • Clear exercise guidance
  • Follow-up support
  • Transparent pricing
  • Accepts health insurance

Cons

  • Short treatment sessions

Locals pointed us to Newcastle Physiotherapy – Jesmond, and we were impressed with what we found. Besides the usual physiotherapy or sports injury treatments, this clinic partly offers holistic therapy wellness.

There were patients who had come here for irritable bowel syndrome treatments. Some would even book an appointment for a consultation about their health and lifestyle.

When it comes to physiotherapy, we were lucky to speak with some patients.

According to most of them, their issues were quickly diagnosed within a single session. It’s then followed by a detailed programme of stretches and strengthening exercises.

Another point that came up was how the physios monitor progress at each appointment, and adapt the programme accordingly. We found this really helpful because it shows they focus on progressive rehabilitation rather than sticking to static treatment plans.

It’s not all perfect, though. While most stories about treatment quality are very positive, we couldn’t brush off the comments about their communication. Some said they take a while to respond to emails.

Pros

  • Fast and accurate diagnosis
  • Personalised rehab programs
  • Progress tracking
  • Holistic wellness approach
  • Focus on long-term improvement

Cons

  • Slow communication

Everyone at the physio has been fantastic start to finish!

“Iwona has been incredible. She diagnosed the injury on day one and spent the next six weeks working with me on a tailored plan to fix it. I can’t recommend her highly enough!! Everyone at the physio has been fantastic start to finish!”

4. Physio Plus

Physio Plus is a clinic that knows exactly what it wants to be. And just as importantly, what it doesn’t try to be.

Instead of building a big wellness hub with every service imaginable, they focus on sports physiotherapy and musculoskeletal rehab. For many clients, that focus is what keeps them coming back.

Our team came across a long-term client who’s worked with the Physio Plus team through multiple serious issues over the years. We’re not talking about minor aches here. She mentioned going through hip replacement rehab, spinal stenosis, and more.

What’s impressive is hearing how the team helped her stay active despite those setbacks. According to her, they’re very hands-on with the treatments.

It’s mostly manual therapy. In fact, we didn’t come across mentions of advanced equipment or other specialised services.

But when a clinic relies mostly on technique and expertise, it just shows how skilled the physiotherapists are in carrying out all the work.

Athletes also seem to come here often for their sports massages. Therapists adjust pressure and techniques based on what the body needs that day. Having a therapist who reads that properly makes a big difference.

Pros

  • Sports injury expertise
  • Very hands-on team
  • Highly skilled physiotherapists
  • Tailored treatment

Cons

  • Limited scope
  • No advanced equipment

I would highly recommend their service

“Helen has worked wonders on my back! I came to Helen with an old back injury that had recurred during late pregnancy. I saw her following the arrival of my baby and at the time I was in a lot of pain, limping and struggling to do basic tasks. Within a couple of weeks Helen had managed to get me pain free and I am delighted with the result and back to being able to do all that I need to do. Everyone at Physio Plus that I have interacted with has been very friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend their service. Thank you Helen and the team.”

Newcastle Sports Injury Clinic is a fairly large team, and that definitely puts them on a pedestal. They have around ten physiotherapists, which helps with appointment availability.

They’re great at figuring out what’s actually causing the problem. They can identify issues that aren’t even obvious at first.

One patient who went for a sports massage for IT band syndrome said the therapist explained his back might be contributing to the issue. Once they started working on that, the symptoms improved after months of struggling.

We also found the same attention to detail in their rehabilitation plans. The exercises are always tailored and adjusted as recovery progresses.

It’s worth mentioning that the clinic offers more than just physiotherapy too. They also have podiatry, Pilates, and biomechanical screenings for running or golf.

That said, there was at least one comment about a session starting late. Not really a huge red flag, but still worth keeping in mind.

Pros

  • Large and qualified team
  • Thorough assessments
  • Good diagnostic skills
  • Personalised rehabilitation programmes
  • Supportive and knowledgeable staff
  • Wide range of services

Cons

  • At least one report of session delay

I felt safe and listened to in every session

“The physio treatment I have received has been excellent. Julia was exceptionally diligent, exploring my array of symptoms and instructing me to contact my gp about other issues she identified. I felt safe and listened to in every session….brilliant”
