Sending the little one to school? Trust me, choosing the best preschool isn’t for the faint-hearted. You’ll find yourself speaking to other parents at the park; the other half judging play areas like a property inspector.

So, when it comes to their recommendations, we listen. This list features some of the best preschools in Newcastle you can trust for your kid’s growth. And yup, they all passed the picky parent test!
How much does preschool cost in Newcastle?
The cost of preschool in Newcastle ranges from £1,000 to £1,200 per month. Some preschoolers accept funding, which can lower the cost to £400 to £700 per month.
1. The Little Lotus Nursery

Location: Buckingham St, Newcastle upon Tyne NE4 5QR
Contact: +44 7405 742618
Opening Hours: Monday – Friday: 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
The Little Lotus stood out with their calm, home-like environment. The place is supported by a family-style setup, allowing kids to be known individually.
Their structured 6-hour program accommodates kids from birth to 5 years old. This ensures a consistent learning model without being rigid.
The most distinctive feature is their “In The Moment Planning” approach. Learning activities are shaped around the children’s real-time interests, resulting in higher engagement.
We also liked that daily outdoor sessions are done in nature-focused settings. They even combine physical activity, emotional regulation, and social development.
Progress updates are available through platforms like ClassDojo. This allows parents to stay informed about their kid’s performance and also assist with improving weaknesses.
Their non-profit model is definitely a plus. Resources appear to be reinvested into staff, facilities, and learning materials.
We just heard a few complaints about management, which affected the way parents saw the service. It appears to have been addressed at this point.
Brilliant setting and staff
“My little girl attended little lotus and I can’t say anything negative about the nursery, from the setting to the staff they are brilliant! My little girl has loved her time at little lotus and has came on leaps and bounds- turned into such a sassy clever little girl.
Thank you so much to everyone at little lotus.”

Gems Nursery stood out with their smooth and flexible enrolment process. They made it easy to arrange care around real family schedules.
Staff were also accommodating, taking off the pressure from working families.
We liked how purposeful and developmentally appropriate their age group was. Kids are grouped into ages 0 to 2, 2 to 3, and 3 to 5.
Rooms are also well-equipped. Not only does this allow for better engagement, but also encourages better stimulation and support.
We loved the balance of structured learning and free play. According to parents, their kids would often come home with artwork, new words, and stories.
The most compelling is their individualised support in speech and language development. The one-on-one attention made the experience more enriching.
The forest school sessions and community trips were also a big plus when it comes to real-world learning.
Rates can be relatively higher than most options. We recommend planning in advance.
Positive experience
“We already had positive experiences from my nephew attending this nursery for a good length of time and since our child joined recently, our already high expectations were met with additional pleasant suprises. This includes the enrollement process, flexibility and caring welcoming nature of staff. We are grateful to the support and evident positive development our child is getting here with a variety of activities offered here. As parents, we feel reassured our child is happy, looks forward to nursery, well cared for in a safe and thriving environment at Gems nursery.”

Opening Hours: Monday – Friday: 7:30 AM – 6:00 PM
Our strong impression of Kids Planet comes from their well-structured environment. The welcoming setup that feels like home made it easy to trust the space for kids.
Flexibility stood out with their full-day care year-round. This makes them ideal for working families with varying schedules.
Their all-inclusive fee structure was also a major draw. Fees already cover the daily essentials, so that’s one less source of stress for parents.
The curriculum is balanced, mixing structured learning with play, like arts, outdoor activities, and yoga. We loved this approach as it allows children to grow naturally while staying engaged and curious.
Communication is also a great plus. Parents get daily updates and app-based tracking to help them stay in the loop. According to families, they loved this level of transparency.
However, we heard issues about high fees. Other than this, we also heard some complaints about not being able to collect kids inside. Parents have to wait outside.
Brilliant attention to detail
“I sent my son to Leigh’s for 18 months before he started school. I was looking for somewhere safe and special where he would feel at home and I really found that at Leigh’s! They went out of their way to accommodate us at short notice and helped him settle in quickly. He now has so many happy memories and lovely friendships from his time there. It was amazing to watch him develop. The environment and attention to detail is brilliant and most of all, the staff are so lovely and took such great care of him. Thanks again for everything. I couldn’t recommend highly enough :-)”

Built amazing relationships
“My daughter has been attending Leigh’s since she was 9 months old and is now 3. She absolutely adores going to nursery everyday and it makes going back to work so much easier knowing that I don’t have to worry at all about her. She has built amazing relationships with all of the staff (who are fantastic) and other children. She has learnt so much from attending Leigh’s and it’s lovely to see how confident she has become. I would recommend Leigh’s to anyone and it’ll be a sad day when Georgia has to leave to go to school!”

4. Gosforth Nursery

Location: 10 Lansdowne Ter, Newcastle upon Tyne NE3 1HN
Contact: +44 191 743 2523
Opening Hours: Monday – Friday: 7:30 AM – 6:00 PM
Gosforth Nursery focuses on smaller group sizes that make the care feel more personal. It gave us a sense of comfort knowing each child gets real attention.
What we really liked was the clear age-based room structure. It puts children of similar strengths and skill levels in one class to ensure fair learning.
Their all-inclusive care was also a major plus. Fees already cover meals, snacks, baby-led weaning support. For busy families, this is a solid advantage.
The play-based learning approach also met our standards. Children are introduced to sensory spaces and outdoor activities.
This allows children to learn naturally while being engaged in development-focused space.
Detailed parent communication is another point. Families can get updates through the app. They send photos and reports, so parents can rest assured about their kid’s progress and safety.
One drawback is that spaces can be limited due to the smaller group focus. This may also make booking difficult at first.
Fulfilling and fun experience
“Our little one started at Gosforth nursery few weeks ago and has settled amazingly well. He goes in with a smile on his face and comes out with one too. This has made working so much easier knowing he’s happy there. The activities he does each day are fulfilling and fun and he loves participating in them. The daily updates and pictures we receive via the app are amazing and puts our
mind at rest. The communication and admin side of the nursery is also great. Thanks team”

Contact: +44 191 271 3506
Opening Hours: Monday – Friday: 7:30 AM – 6:30 PM
Little Pioneers impressed us with their relationship-focused care with consistent key workers. This helps children settle quickly and comfortably.
According to parents, this also helped their kids transition smoothly. It’s a plus for younger or first-time kids.
We liked their engaging and well-planned daily activities. They have a good balance of purpose and fun at the same time.
The messy play and structured learning were blended naturally. This made the environment feel both stimulating and enriching.
We also appreciate the consistent communication through the parent app. Through this, families get updates, photos, and daily logs that keep everything transparent.
Flexibility is another good factor. We found that Little Pioneers can accommodate extra bookings whenever necessary. They also maintain a nice, friendly atmosphere which makes communication much more seamless.
The only thing to take note of is the reported delay in handling a speech therapy referral. However, these are isolated reports in specific cases.
Great variation of activities
“Our little girl has attended Little Pioneers Newbiggin Hall for over 2yrs now and she absolutely loves it. The nursery practitioners not only take good care of her they also make sure she enjoys her learning making everything fun. The variation of activities and seasonal events are just amazing for the little ones. She is coming on leaps with the support and guidance of the nursery staff. We are forever grateful to you all.”

Would recommend
“My little boy has attended the nursery since he was 11 months old. The staff supported me during COVID and reassured me of their safety measures and I have no doubt my son is in safe hands. I can go to work confidently knowing he will be perfectly fine. He clearly loves the nursery and staff and goes straight in which is a fab sign. I love getting sent pictures through the app of what a fab day he is having! Especially the messy activities which I don’t get around to doing at home as much! I would definitely recommend!! :D”
