The 5 best yoga classes in Newcastle worth rolling out your mat for
Everybody remembers their first yoga class. Well, I sure remember mine. Perhaps, it’s because ten minutes in, I was wobbling through poses while everyone else looked completely relaxed.
But somehow along the way, I realised yoga isn’t really about being perfect. It’s about finding a class that feels right for you. Luckily, Newcastle has plenty of options!
To help you, our team looked for the best yoga classes in Newcastle. Here’s what we found after a period of stretching!
How much do yoga classes cost in Newcastle?
Yoga classes in Newcastle usually cost about £7–£15 per drop-in class. Private lessons are more expensive, often starting from about £20–£35+ per hour.

Hot yoga can either feel like a calming reset or a slightly sweaty survival test. Hotpod Yoga Newcastle leans into the first one!
Their whole setup is pretty impressive. The inflatable pod isn’t just a gimmick. It created a cocoon-like environment that feels intentionally cut off from the outside world. At around 37°C, classes sit in that warm-but-manageable range.
Beginners would enjoy the slower flow and clear instructions here. We also loved that the yoga studio offers options throughout the day.
They have classes in the early mornings, midday, evenings, and even late sessions. A single class is fairly standard, and the memberships make it more accessible for regulars.
That flexibility is a real plus if you’re trying to fit yoga into a busy schedule. The flows themselves tend to focus on feel-good movement, stress relief, and mobility rather than high-intensity sequences.
That said, the dim lighting isn’t for everyone. Some people loved it, but others found it too dark.
I am able to switch off from the outside world and just enjoy the session
“I started hotpod because I do a lot of intense exercise and have a busy life so wanted an hour of movement for me. Sarah K usually takes the 11:30 Sunday classes and she is excellent in her delivery, she explains things really well, at a pace which allows you to understand the movement coming next and complete the flows. I am able to switch off from the outside world and just enjoy the session. So massive thank you to Sarah K! I am also finding these sessions are improving my recovery which is an added bonus!

If you’re the type who doesn’t want to be boxed into one style or level, you’re going to enjoy Yoga X Life Studios’ ecosystem.
There are beginner-friendly flows, more intense power sessions, and restorative classes. There are even extras like aerial yoga, yoga nidra, and workshops focused on technique.
The biggest differentiator is that they don’t stop with just running classes, but also building a pathway. The whole teacher training and mentorship give it a depth you don’t see in other studios.
We also liked how they amplify their atmosphere with music, incense, and lighting. There’s also a cafe where visitors can hang out after the classes.
Pricing is where things get a bit more nuanced. Compared to other studios, it’s a bit on the higher side. The good thing is they offer flexibility for membership or single-class bookings.

Some studios can feel a bit intimidating, but Happy Yoga isn’t one of them. From what we’ve gathered, Jo’s great at making yoga accessible.
She skips the fancy terminology, which is why her students could focus on how they feel things in their body. In fact, multiple people highlighted how the classes are genuinely welcoming to beginners!
At the same time, there are more challenging sessions available, and the variety is a huge pro. People can choose what suits them on any given day. There are even pregnancy yoga and online classes available.
We also love the noticeable respect for the roots of yoga. One regular mentioned that Jo honours its history and spirit while still adapting it to modern bodies and lifestyles.
Moreover, props like mats, blocks, straps, and blankets are provided.
Now, it’s not perfect. A few people mentioned that getting in touch with them is sometimes difficult.
Jo’s lessons are so gentle with plenty of options for those less flexible
“When I first started showing the signs of osteo-arthritis I was struggling to get down the stairs in the morning, so never thought I’d be able to do yoga at 7:30am. In the early lessons, getting up and down was slow and kneeling or sitting cross-legged an impossibility. Jo’s lessons are so gentle with plenty of options for those less flexible. Before I realised it I was moving from lying to standing with ease and now I can sit cross-legged or rest in child’s pose comfortably. Jo has seen me through bruised ribs and a frozen shoulder, always finding alternatives to suit and 1 year on I am still happy to turn up on my mat at 7:30am.”

Very supportive and helpful
“Jo teaches accessible yoga which doesn’t use fancy terminology or names, but still manages to deliver an excellent yoga experience. Very supportive and helpful and she responds quickly to any queries. Joining up allows access to the extensive video library for specific topics and situations. My feeling is that many sessions would suit beginners or older students. Other sessions are more challenging.. it’s great to have the choice.”

4. The Modern Yoga Studio

- Monday: 9:30 AM – 8:30 PM

- Wednesday to Thursday: 9:30 AM – 8:30 PM
- Friday: 9:30 AM – 5:30 PM
- Saturday: 9 AM – 6 PM
- Sunday: 9:30 AM – 6 PM
We looked into The Modern Yoga Studio, and here’s our verdict: it’s great with progression, both physically and mentally. It seems to be what keeps people coming back.
The Vinyasa classes, especially with Celeste, were mentioned a lot during our interviews. They’re more than just movement. There’s a reflective, almost introspective later to them, which can feel transformative.
They also have have multiple instructors, so instead of a general teaching style, each class has its own personality. It’s a big win if you get bored easily or want to explore different approaches to yoga.
What they arguably do best is range. You can see it with how they offer options like pregnancy and post-natal yoga, and more demanding styles like Ashtanga.
There are even occasional workshops and retreats that go beyond the standard weekly class routine.
That said, popularity comes with a catch. Classes can quickly fill up here, so spontaneity isn’t really recommended.
This is a lovely yoga studio
“This is a lovely yoga studio, I can’t always get to classes now I’ve moved away from Gosforth but I always feel welcome any time I go. Rosie’s beginner course is a great introduction to the practice. Hoping to make it to a sound bath soon!”

If you’re someone who wants a well-rounded, traditional-leaning yoga class, Yoga Newcastle is a great choice. David leads it and everyone we spoke to loved his teaching style and philosophy.
People also said they felt comfortable right away. Even the beginners who were surrounded by more experienced practitioners were at ease. That’s a teaching a style that actively removes intimidation, which impressed us.
The classes lean heavily into a full-spectrum. Postures, breathwork (pranayama), and even meditation are touched upon.
One students who had actually studded in India even said it was the closest he’d found to that traditional style. Now, that’s a pretty strong endorsements if you’re looking for something more authentic.
Sometimes, David also hosts retreats, and his students love them. They include meditation, Thai massage, and a broader exploration of the practice.
Just remember that once you paid for a class, it’s non-refundable. Not unusual, but something to keep in mind if you have an unpredictable schedule.
David has a very inclusive way of teaching people of all levels
“My 1st introduction to Yoga was via one of David Atkinson’s classes and straight away he put me at easy among other more experienced class members. David has a very inclusive way of teaching people of all levels and is able to included great breathing and meditation techniques into his classes. Several years later I have continued to attend his classes and also a couple of his Yoga retreats held in Same y Ling monastery in Scotland. I would thoroughly recommend his retreats too as there is more time to experience a wide range of meditation and yoga practice in a beautiful relaxing environment. Overall I find David a wonderful teacher and I am so grateful to how Yoga makes me feel!”

He is vastly experienced and hugely knowledgeable
“I have been taking classes with David for over three years. In my view, David is a brilliant teacher. He is vastly experienced and hugely knowledgeable. As you would expect, he is also calm and patient! His classes are designed to challenge you but at the same time everyone is encouraged to go at his or her own pace. David brings some top teachers to Newcastle and runs some great weekend courses of his own. If you want to experience the real deal, then I can’t recommend David’s classes enough.”
